5 υπέροχα plus size μοντέλα, που περπάτησαν στις πασαρέλες των Christian Siriano, Cushnie, 11 Honoré, Teen Vogue's Body Party, Chromat, Rebecca Minkoff.

Τα τελευταία χρόνια η βιομηχανία της μόδας αλλάζει όλο και περισσότερο. Είτε γιατί οι ίδιοι οι σχεδιαστές άλλαξαν οπτική, είτε γιατί το κοινό το απαίτησε, οι άνθρωποι της μόδας συνειδητοποίησαν ότι οι γυναίκες δεν είμαστε στην πλειοψηφία μας ούτε ευθείες γραμμές χωρίς μισή καμπύλη, ούτε έχουμε διαστάσεις 90-60-90, οπότε δεν είναι δυνατόν πάνω στις πασαρέλες και στα editorials μόδας να συναντάμε μόνο τέτοιους σωματότυπους.

Έτσι, πλέον καριέρα μοντέλου βλέπουμε ότι μπορούν και κάνουν καθημερινές γυναίκες, με καμπύλες, που αγαπάνε τον εαυτό τους και με τις οποίες συχνά μπορούμε να ταυτιστούμε πολύ περισσότερο. Ξεκίνησαν αργά και σταθερά, από φωτογραφίσεις για εταιρίες ρούχων αποκλειστικά για γυναίκες με παραπάνω κιλά, ώστε σήμερα να τις συναντάμε σε πασαρέλες οίκων υψηλής ραπτικής.

Πριν λίγο διάστημα, οι γυναίκες αυτές περπάτησαν και στην εβδομάδα μόδας, τραβώντας τα βλέμματα, με την ομορφιά και την αμέτρητη αυτοπεποίθηση τους, κάνοντας πολλές γυναίκες να εύχονται να μοιάσουν σε εκείνες, αντί στη Τζίτζι Χαντίντ και την Κένταλ Τζένερ, και βοηθώντας μας να συνειδητοποιήσουμε ότι όμορφες δεν μας κάνει το να είμαστε 50 κιλά, αλλά το να αγαπάμε τον εαυτό μας, όπως είναι.

Ta-da: Some videos from yesterday’s @rebeccaminkoff #NYFW show! ?? This was my third time on a runway at fashion week and for the first time I wasn’t nervous...which is mind-blowing to me. I just never ever thought that this would be an environment for someone like me—a size 14, mixed-race woman. I’m so lucky to have friends like @rebeccaminkoff, @patrickherning, and @beccamccharentran who have welcomed me into their worlds. And, in yesterday’s case, have also welcomed incredible people like @noor and @iskra, whose company I was floored to be in. (Also so grateful to my superstar friends like @candicehuffine and @preciousleexoxo who gassed me up all week!) The best thing I could wish for is that girls these days don’t grow up feeling as invaluable as I did—and as a lot of my peers did—because they didn’t see themselves represented. If hitting a runway or posting on @instagram helps any person who looks a little like me feel seen, then I’ll keep at it. The money shot! ?? After a day to reflect on the @11honore show, I’m starting to put my words together. At first, I didn’t have much to say...and I realized that’s because I kind of blacked out while I was there. ???‍♀️ When I got home, the first thing I thought about was that a few people told me they cried during the finale—people who are and aren’t plus-size—and TBH I thought they were joking. I mean, it’s just a fashion show! It’s ten minutes of looking at clothes! And it happens 70 times during fashion week! ??‍♀️ It took me going through my texts and DMs—so many that it took 24 hours—to realize what this particular show meant to its viewers. And to me. As someone whose work and life revolve around size and fashion, I sometimes forget that the world at large is behind. To me, it’s a no-brainer that there should be fashion shows with full casts above sample size. But in reality, that has never happened at a designer show at #NYFW. (There have been @additionelle, @torridfashion, and @diaandco shows on the schedule.) Though the supermodels among us like @ashleygraham and @candicehuffine have conquered runways around the world, this felt like the first time plus-size women were represented in their own space. Actually, it felt like we were throwing a welcome party. There was ? and ? and once I watched the videos from a few @instagram Stories, I also realized there were cheers! When I hit the middle of the runway, some of my incredible peers roared. And then I remembered seeing their faces—@gabriellak_j, @gabifresh, @nicolettemason, @huntermcgrady, @beccamccharentran—and I took a mental screenshot. I also got moving messages from friends—@eiffeltyler, @josephcarrillo, @nicolekali.s, @thatcbear, @kailloren, @littlelimedress—of which I took actual screenshots. I’m saving them in hopes of saving this feeling for the days that work feels hard. For the days that I hate my body. For the days that I feel like size inclusion is too big a task for my own brand, @henning. Thank you @patrickherning and #11Honore for reminding me and everyone who saw this spectacle that women of all sizes deserve to be represented. And that we look DAMN GOOD doing it! ?????
